Nevada City, CA’s Beautiful Dudes have shared the extremely personal new song “Lose My Head” today. While their last single “Peace Train” lamented the reversals of progress through the macro lens of today’s political climate, “Lose My Head” finds frontman Tom Bevitori delving into his own personal relapses. The song addresses his struggles with addiction and substance abuse, the escapism inherent in the decision to relapse, and the repercussions of that choice.
Speaking to the song, Bevitori details, “This song is about making the decision to relapse, knowing I am about to put myself in a vicious cycle, but doing it anyway. There is a level of distress about making the choice and the guilt that will follow. In the moment, it is such a sweet relief from my own problems, and the problems of a dysfunctional society – all while knowing it’s not a fix, just a direction chosen in that moment. Drugs are not the cure, but there is a definite reward found in removing the weight of the world for a moment. It is also meant to bring prescription drug abuse and the epidemic out in the open. Pills can really give you a feeling of numb confidence.”
