Arab Strap Shares Single “Allatonceness”

Arab Strap shares “Allatonceness,” the second track made available from the upcoming album I’m totally fine with it  don’t give a fuck anymore (Rock Action Records) out May 10, 2024. “Allatonceness” is the charging album-opener, and comes with a clever lyric video.

Aidan Moffat shares: “Lyrically it’s about being addicted to the endless stream of online lunacy and bullshit – constant bad news, disinformation and conspiracy theories, abuse and threats etc. – when I know I should be out engaging with the world in a more physical, meaningful way. But I can’t stop scrolling, because I’ve been conditioned to constantly seek and consume information, which perpetuates the tide of misery and makes me part of the problem … The title came from Marshall McLuhan’s terrifyingly relevant 1967 book The Medium is the Massage; he also coined the phrase ‘global village,’ and that’s where the ‘village hall’s on fire all day’ line comes from. Long story short: I need to get out more.”

In January, Arab Strap announced their 2nd long player for Mogwai’s Rock Action Records following its critically acclaimed return after a 16-year hiatus (2021’s As Days Get Dark), with “Bliss,” a song that perfectly exemplifies their most sonically expansive album to date. An almost entirely electronic disco banger with just a hint of trusty guitar, it’s Arab Strap at its most immediate and vital. Lyrically, the song addresses the horrors of online hate, as vocalist Aidan Moffat says “It’s about women being terrorized online; it’s about cowardice and bigotry. It’s about how we expose ourselves on social platforms while hiding alone at home. But you can dance to it too!” The track comes accompanied by a video directed by award-winning, Glasgow based director Ains featuring a striking dancer personifying a character trapped in a dystopian realm.
