Laid Back
Cosyland
In 1983, while I was busy watching Michael Jackson turn into a werewolf and then a zombie, the dudes in Laid Back were singing about the joys of shooting up heroin with their late disco classic “White Horse.” Wikipedia says that influential song inspired Prince’s classic B-side “Erotic City,” and that New Order practically worships this band (and of course we all know Wikipedia is never wrong. Right? Right?!). Laid Back may be electronic music legends but their new EP Cosyland sounds like these guys never got the memo that 1983 was only supposed to last for 365 days. Built around the extended mix of their 2010 comeback single “Cocaine Cool” (Boys, we get it—you like drugs), Cosyland isn’t much of an album, although people who can’t get enough of vintage-sounding synthesizers will certainly eat it up.
