It’s been over 10 years since Rick Rizzo and Tara Key released their first (and only) collaborative album of spacey instrumental jams but the two never entirely quit working together in the mean time. Digital file swaps and impromptu jam sessions took place all along the way. Double Star compiles the best of of these ideas in a polished, ambient package in which echoey guitar loops are interspersed with various organs, electronic samples and percussion. Lacking consistency, this release feels more like a collection of individual experiments rather than a single album and doesn’t offer much for extended listening sessions. (Thrill Jockey)
