Alameda hails from Portland, Oregon, which has a reputation for good music all on its own. However, this band needs nobody to prop them up. Mixing acoustic guitars, strings, clarinets, drums (though used quite sparingly), and the incredible vocals of Stirling Myles, this first full length is one of the strongest and most beautiful albums I’ve heard in quite some time. Sure, on the surface it sounds like your run of the mill indie-folk. What really makes this stand out is the instrument arrangement. These guys really know what fits and what doesn’t.
