Video Premiere | Goodnight Nobody, ‘Staircase’

Goodnight Nobody’s music melds the knotty rhythms and dissonance of noise and math rock with the melodic hooks of indie rock for a sound that contains multitudes. The trio’s self-titled debut (Sweet Cheetah Records), set to be released on September 18, 2026, can be pre-ordered here.

Listen to and watch the second single, “Staircase,” from Goodnight Nobody’s debut below.

Goodnight Nobody guitarist/vocalist Jason Dean says, “This is one of our more straightforward thematic songs about the piling up of environmental disasters. I heard an interview with a climate scientist, and they mentioned we were essentially climbing up the staircase towards ultimate catastrophe. We tried to match this sentiment with an equally bleak visual that Ben [Glassman] pulled together with found footage and some shots of us at our practice space.”

The Vermont-based three-piece unleashes their self-titled debut from the Green Mountain State. Recorded at Magpie Cage studio in the aftermath of a rare Baltimore snowstorm in February 2026 with J. Robbins at the helm, these eight tracks incorporate a variety of influences. With songs that are at times melodic, angular, angry, and vulnerable, Goodnight Nobody brings together elements that recall the ’90s rosters of labels like Dischord and Kill Rock Stars while weaving in elements of second-wave emo plus 2000s indie and math rock.

Heavy riffs dissolve into pretty, atmospheric passages, tense interlocking layers explode into cathartic crescendos, unified by intricate but intuitive arrangements. Hailing from the wilds of northern Vermont, Dean, formerly of Seattle noise rock titans Mutiny Mutiny, brings the squalling noise atop the dynamic, flowing rhythmic foundation generated by Ben Glassman (bass) and Nicholas Kramer (drums).

The record represents the culmination of Goodnight Nobody’s first chapter. New England shows are currently being planned around the record release. A new clutch of potent and poignant songs are currently in the works.
