Extra Arms, Thunderbirds Are Now! member Ryan Allen released his new four-song EP, I’m Not Mean today. Allen celebrates by sharing the video for the EP’s first single “Count With Me,” an infectious jangly pop concoction. Wearing his influences directly on his sleeve, Allen takes inspiration from classic indie rock favorites like REM, the Smiths, and Jesus and Mary Chain, unsung and sung ’90s indie heroes like Teenage Fanclub, Black Tambourine, and Another Sunny Day. He also shares a fascination with newer groups like Pains of Being Pure at Heart and Crystal Stilts. I’m Not Mean was mixed and mastered by Justin Pizzoferrato, who has been at the helm of most of Dinosaur Jr’s reunion albums, as well as a bunch of great records by Speedy Ortiz, Supercrush, Pixies, and Wild Pink.
