If we told you who Sterling Price is, would you know who the artist was? Many know Price as Pugs Atomz, the emcee with the recognizable name, but for some reason, many may still find themselves scratching their collective heads unable to put their fingers right on it. That’s all about to change. Born in Pittsburgh and raised in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago. Pugs Atomz is literally world-renowned, and after touring with DJ Vadim on a 41 city tour, he moving to London to form the group The Electric with Vadim. But there’s more to Atomz than some may be aware of. He led the Chicago Hip-Hop collective the Nacrobats that was the foundation for artists like MC’s Open Mike Eagle, Psalm One, Thaione Davis, and painters Hebru Brantley and Statik RK to name a few.
After moving back to Chicago and building a healthy catalog of albums on a number of labels (BBE, Tokyo Dawn, Sonar Kollectiv) Pugs Atoms is set to release his new full-length album Test Drive on October 13, 2021. The album is produced by L.A.-based musician turned producer Tusk57 who has established himself as a multi-instrumentalist with a number of records under a number of pseudonyms. It seems together, the two can’t miss with the new Test Drive. The album also features appearances by the likes of emcees Killah Priest, Rockie Fresh, and Chris Crack.
Today Pugs Atomz shares the animated video for the album’s laid-back title track, as it follows an animated Pugs and his love interest through deserty backdrops. Acoustic guitars balance the airy feel with Awdazcate’s backing harmonies. The imagery and music meet at the perfect point where art meets, well, art. Everyone can purchase the track here.
