Video Premiere: Human Potential, "Beat The Heat"

Human Potential, the solo project of composer / musician / producer / filmmaker Andrew Becker (former drummer of Dischord Records band Medications and Brooklyn experimental outfit Screens), released I’m Glad You’re Alive, on February 7, 2020, via Becker’s own, What Delicate Recordings.

Today, Ghettoblaster has the pleasure of sharing Human Potential’s video for “Beat The Heat.” This is what Becker had to say about it.

“This is a snuff film my friend and I found in his parents-in-law’s panic room during a particularly raucous holiday party back in December.  Though shocked and appalled by the disturbing, yet peculiarly amusing imagery, we decided to give the silent movie a score by playing it the over the song, ‘Beat the Heat,’ from my new album, I’m Glad You’re Alive…a la Wizard of Oz x Dark Side of the Moon.  Conveniently, the gentleman who has seemingly been abducted in the film appeared to be singing the words to the track in almost precision sync, at the beginning.  Astounded, I thought I’d use this piece of celluloid sleaze as a simple visual accompaniment to the song, in order to stir controversy and garner social media likes/dislikes.

“As of this writing, we still don’t know who this family of cretins is, nor the fate of the man hogtied in the ocean. But, at least it’s there for us when Faces of Death is rented at the video store.”
