Representing an emerging Hip-Hop scene based out in Cincinnati, Ronin Halloway combines influences ranging from alternative rock all the way to British Grime. With a debut project underway Pressure slated for a spring release, Halloway plans to continue releasing both audible and visual content in 2019.
Today, Ronin is premiering the video for his single “Fruit Fly”. Taking cues from his influencers, Ronin is antagonistic on the single; pulsating synth along with the striking lyrical approach. And much like the single, the vibe is tumultuous and intense throughout the video. The audience witnesses shots of the hip-hop artist lurking around a small yet menacing cabin out in the woods and dark alleyways of the city.
“Working with xvii production is the best. 17 produced my single “Gallows” (featuring Siri Imani of TRiiiBE), and it’s very exciting to release another song together,” Ronin says. “The song is reaching deeper into where I want to take my visual realm moving forward; I’m taking a lot of influence from David Bowie. Strange, somewhat ominous and fantasy-inspired stuff. I want to be the Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones of rap at the same time! Benjamin Clementine and Rosalia are my two biggest current influences as well. I want to keep developing my melodic side while continuing to dive more deeply into lyricism.”
