On January 8, 2016, Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) will release Straight Outta Compton: Music From The Motion Picture, the official soundtrack for the highly successful and critically acclaimed N.W.A biopic, and Straight Outta Compton: Original Motion Picture Score featuring music composed and conducted for the film by Joseph Trapanese, and produced by Bryan Lawson and Joseph Trapanese. Straight Outta Compton: Music From The Motion Picture and Original Motion Picture Score will be available on all digital platforms and CD, with Straight Outta Compton: Music From The Motion Picture being pressed as a 2-LP vinyl set.
Both Straight Outta Compton: Music From The Motion Picture and Straight Outta Compton: Original Motion Picture Score are essential companion pieces to Straight Outta Compton, the culturally relevant and explosively entertaining biopic coming to Digital HD on January 5, 2016, and Blu-ray™, DVD and On Demand January 19, 2016, from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. The Blu-ray™ and Digital HD versions include the exclusive Unrated Director’s Cut that gives fans more of the N.W.A story, with 20 additional minutes of the film.
Straight Outta Compton: Music From The Motion Picture features key cuts from gangsta rap pioneers N.W.A, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, and Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg, as well as old-skool cuts by funk and soul legends Parliament, Funkadelic, Steve Arrington’s Hall of Fame and Roy Ayers Ubiquity.
Songs on Straight Outta Compton: Music From The Motion Picture include “Quiet on tha Set,” “Gangsta Gangsta,” “Express Yourself” and the explosive title track from N.W.A’s earthshaking, triple platinum debut album, Straight Outta Compton. Solo cuts include Eazy-E’s “We Want Eazy,” Dr. Dre’s “Nuthin’ But A ‘G’ Thang” featuring Snoop Dogg, and both legendary “dis” track throw-downs released by N.W.A and Ice Cube, after the latter acrimoniously left the group, are included here: N.W.A’s “Real N****z” and Ice Cube’s return shot, “No Vaseline.” Parental discretion is not advised – it’s mandatory.
Straight Outta Compton: Music From The Motion Picture also features songs that are part of the DNA of the group including Funkadelic’s “(Not Just) Knee Deep,” Parliament’s “Flash Light,” and 1983’s funk bomb “Weak at the Knees” by Steve Arrington’s Hall of Fame. Never has a history lesson felt so fresh, and over time this music has lost none of its potency or relevance.
These 17 core tracks form a soundtrack worthy of N.W.A’s legacy.
