While Kerchief’s LP Machines and Animals bears no title track, the sophomore single “Jack London” lends a fitting summary of the entire 11-song debut.
Formerly of the indie band Vanity Theft, Brittany Hill cuts through with a poetically relatable and compelling edge. A dynamic composition tensely contained by its recurrent low-end hypnosis with a cumulating burst from a boundless wall of sound set the perfect tone, tying an underlying story of a creative person’s journey from angst to ease. Distinguished drum patterns contributed by producer Matty Amendola, alongside Hill’s experimental melodic guitar arrangements, will have audiophiles hitting the repeat button while satisfying the first-time listener with its engaging hook.
Kerchief’s sound, previously characterized as “fortified by straightforward lyrics that still leave spaces for a listener’s imagination” (June Tunes Digest), intuited the intention behind the cinematically produced video. Unexpected twists and turns with unprecedented artful attention won’t be allowed to go unnoticed. 
Ghettoblaster recently caught up with Hill to discuss another engaging album, Brand New’s The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me. This is what she said about it.
What is your favorite album?
Brand New’s The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me. Based on how long it stayed in my CD player and how many live shows I’ve been to so I could chant along with the band and hundreds of others.
What is your favorite song on the album?
“Limousine.”
What is it about the song that resonates with you? 
The dynamic and the lyrical content. It transitions from slow and dark halfway through to more upbeat and melancholy. The melody and the chord progression always strike me hard upon the changeup. The lyrics paint a story about a young girl’s death in the beginning, then deal with some religious imagery and questioning in the end. I grew up in a religious home so that type of lyrical content has always struck a chord with me.
Have you ever covered a song from the album?
Yes. “Jesus Christ” and “Degausser”
What is it about the album that makes it stand out against the band’s other output?
Brand New has established almost kind of a cult following. I think one of the reasons for that is the way they’ve evolved so drastically with each and every album. This album is perhaps their darkest and most compelling, and in my opinion the most musically interesting.
Have you ever given a copy of this record to anyone? What were the circumstances?
I burnt copies for several friends in college after playing them a track and them asking who it is. I wanted everyone to hear this album the year it came out. Still do.
Which of the records that you’ve performed on is your favorite?
My most recent album, the debut Kerchief LP, Machines and Animals, is definitely my favorite. It’s been my greatest challenge so far.
What is your favorite song on the album and why?
“Out of Focus”. I’m big on lyrics. My favorite lyrics that I’ve written are in this track.
