OOIOO, famously fronted by Yoshimi P-we of Boredoms, is set to release Gamel, a new album influenced by the percussion heavy tradition of gamelan, on July 1. Earlier today SPIN announced the album and shared “Atatawa,” a new track from Gamel that heavily features the gongs and bells that characterize the ancient Javanese style, performed by gamelan musicians Tomoyuki Hamamoto and Koheysai Kawamura. Gamel is the first OOIOO album since 2009’s Armonico Hewa.
