Let’s call it what it should be called. Filthy Friends is a super-group of friends that have made their mark with a number of different groups. Filthy Friends’ debut album Invitation is set for release August 25 on Kill Rock Stars. The band shares the video for the single “Despierta,” which may hold a deeper message than you may think. Wake up!

Filthy Friends is the product of like-minded individuals with nothing to prove getting together and making a heroic racket together that finds space for their many influences and interests. Lead singer Corin Tucker has left an indelible mark on the punk scene through her memberships in Sleater-Kinney and Heavens to Betsy. Guitarist Kurt Bloch has logged a lot of hours as the leader of The Fastbacks, as well as serving as a producer/mentor for up and coming Seattle rock groups. Drummer Bill Rieflin has a fine day job as one of the musicians in Ministry and King Crimson, he appears on the record but is no longer a touring member. Drummer Linda Pitmon  (The Baseball Project, Steve Wynn & The Miracle 3) has joined the band as a permanent member. Bassist Scott McCaughey keeps plenty busy doing studio work and mining the power pop underground with his long-running band the Young Fresh Fellows. As for the other guitarist, Peter Buck has abandoned his position of Lord of the dance to play with Filthy Friends.

R.E.M. debuted the latest video from the “Audition Tapes From Places in Peril” series by T. Hardy Morris on their site, R.E.M. HQ. The take away video for “Share The Needle”, off the Athens, GA based musician’s debut solo album Audition Tapes, was filmed at Howard Finster’s Paradise Garden. The unique and historic site is one of the Georgia Trust’s “Places in Peril”, and the same location where R.E.M. filmed their iconic video for “Radio Free Europe.” Lean more about Paradise Garden here.

On August 16th T. Hardy Morris will host a special screening at Ciné in Athens, GA to showcase the “Audition Tapes From Places in Peril” video series in full, with proceeds going to support the Georgia Trust. For the series Morris and filmmaker/photographer Jason Thrasher (cousin of Guided By Voices/Swearing At Motorists’ Don Thrasher) traveled to 10 historic sites throughout Georgia to film live performance “take away” videos of each song on Audition Tapes. All of these sites have been chosen for the “Places In Peril” list, published annually by the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation to draw attention to historic sites threatened by demolition and neglect (Learn More).
