Xiu Xiu shares “ Pahrump,” the latest single from the devastatingly macabre, appropriately cacophonous new album, titled Ignore Grief (Polyvinyl), due for release on March 3, 2023. The current iteration of Xiu Xiu includes existing members Jamie Stewart and Angela Seo, now joined by old friend and new member David Kendrick (Sparks, Devo, Gleaming Spires).
Jamie Stewart shares: “‘Pahrump’ is a dissonant string ensemble piece that features intense, harmolodic saxophones by thee Patrick Shiroishi. It details the avoidable disaster of someone I love having chosen the sloshing path of cocaine and booze over her children, who I also love. She lives and will likely soon die in the nightmare town of Pahrump, Nevada.”
The release of “Pahrump” is accompanied by a neon-noir video directed by the band’s Angela Seo, which perfectly captures the dread and chaos that ensues from futile attempts to escape feelings of shame and the consequences of abandonment. Seo shares: “ I’ve been watching a lot of old westerns and ghost films. In both, there is often an overarching sense of regret, revenge, a reckoning yet to come. You can’t ever simply run away.”
The band plans to tour the U.S. following the release of Ignore Grief in the Spring, followed by newly confirmed dates overseas. SEE ALL DATES BELOW. The start of the lengthy tour will coincide with the release of a book that Jamie Stewart penned, called Anything That Moves , available April 4th via And Other Stories .
