Video Premiere | Quentin, ‘Hello Denial’

QUENTIN is a visionary artist and performer whose work blends raw emotion with striking visuals and fearless self-expression. Known for a daring aesthetic and spill-your-guts live performances, the artist first commands attention with their voice — a powerhouse instrument that is soulful, emotive, and remarkably agile.

Beyond the spectacle, their art explores identity, empowerment, and transformation, creating spaces where vulnerability and power coexist. All of the above is on full display in Quentin’s forthcoming album, TOMGIRL (Playing In Traffic Records, coming this Spring), and its first single and video, “Hello Denial,” out today.

One of the first songs written for TOMGIRL, “Hello Denial” emerged during an emotionally charged night that sent the artist straight to longtime collaborator kinderr’s home studio. Save it here.

“This is definitely one of those songs that spilled out of me,” Quentin explains. “I was worried the lyrics might be too honest and revealing.” Drawing from a deeply personal experience familiar to many queer listeners — forming a romantic connection with someone who identifies as straight — the song confronts the damage that can occur when identity goes unspoken. “Sometimes when somebody isn’t honest about their sexual identity, they end up hurting people along the way,” Quentin says. “It’s a complex concept, and I wanted to make a song that felt like an anthem for it. I hope the pain I went through to make this song can ultimately help other people heal — or keep them from inflicting that pain on someone else.”

Directed by longtime collaborator Ducky Mane, the Austin-shot video was created entirely by the duo without an outside team. “The bat represents the power of setting boundaries and maintaining peace, rather than resorting to impulsive aggression,” the musician explains. “The video is really about empowerment and emotional restraint.” Featuring nearly fifteen close friends, the imagery emphasizes solidarity, strength and shared experience.

More than a musician, Quentin is a multidisciplinary artist merging music, fashion, and visual storytelling into cutting-edge presentations — including a national storefront “window performance” project that transforms iconic retail spaces into living stages, challenging the boxes artists are placed in and reclaiming visibility on their own terms.
