The Spiritual Machines, fronted by producer/musician Evan Frankfort, released the new single “I’ll Die Laughing” from its upcoming LP Lockhearted, out 8/16. With a lush sonic landscape, the song comments on the inevitability of suffering while encouraging the listener to feel those feelings without letting them stop us from experiencing joy. The track arrives with an official video that splices together clips of tragic events with beautiful moments
The new wave-inspired track utilizes a lush sonic landscape to comment on the inevitability of suffering and to encourage the listener to feel those feelings while also not letting them stop us from experiencing joy. The video beautifully complements this, splicing together clips of tragic events with beautiful moments.
“We will never let go of suffering,” shares Evan Frankfort. “It’s a hallmark of the human condition. There can be no joy without it. We will create it for ourselves if the universe doesn’t create it for us. Balance is one of the keys to life.” Lockhearted is a loose concept album, inspired by pioneer/futurist Ray Kurzweil and his 1999 book The Age Of Spiritual Machines where he predicted that computers would eventually develop souls.
Lockhearted builds on Frankfort’s sizable legacy in record production, film/TV scoring, and electronic and experimental sound design. Frankfort wrote, produced, and mixed all of the songs, as well as sang, and played guitar, keyboards, and bass. Future Aaron, a frequent collaborator of Frankfort’s, shared vocal duties and played bass, while Craig Owens, known for composing countless TV themes including for Dance Moms and The Wendy Williams Show, was the primary keyboardist. French drummer Matt LeChavalier (ETHS & Headcharger, My Ruin, Full Blown Rose, Whiskey Falls) rounds out the quartet.
