The Austin-based Strange Lot whose “Western-sun-scorched take on psych-rock” (KUTX) has garnered a local cult following — share a new track and music video today.
“It’s Always You” imbues Strange Lot’s signature, droning psychedelic sound with swirling shoegaze guitar, heavy garage percussion, and reverb that’s as dream-like as the lyrics singing through it. The track oozes with shades of Thee Oh Sees, Dungen, The Horrors, all coming together under one hazy rainbow.
The music video for “It’s Always You” takes all sound into consideration, as the visual effects — made by Tachyons+, the mind behind Tame Impala’s live visuals and the glitch effects for the latest Alien film — create a polychromatic world around the track.
Today’s single is pulled from an upcoming debut album that boasts some big-time collaborators: production from The Black Angels’ Alex Maas, mixing from Spoon’s Jim Eno, and mastering from Howie Weinberg who’s worked with Smashing Pumpkins, Prince, and Nirvana.
