SEXTILE Shares Electrifying “Kids”

There’s a stylish angst that underlines the music of Los Angeles-based electronic punk band Sextile. Their new single, “Kids,” arrives ahead of the album yes, please. (Sacred Bones) out May 2, 2025. The track pulls from feelings of teenage defiance and misunderstanding, while also locating solace in the ways that music and camaraderie can serve as life-affirming releases at that age. “Have you ever watched the kids around / Have you ever felt that crazy sound / I feel that’s all we’re up against / We’ll be there once until the end,” singer Melissa Scaduto ponders over an upbeat techno groove peppered with trance synths in the final lines. The song is accompanied by a zippy video directed by Augustus Miller of Boy Harsher that heightens the essence of being young amidst the bustle of the city.

On “Kids,” Melissa Scaduto of Sextile shares: “The song is about being a teenager where you start to figure out who you are and feel misunderstood by your family but the feeling you get of finding your people and music for the first time that is yours. Similar to myself feeling depressed at that age then sneaking out and going to raves and shows and realizing I was gonna be alive elsewhere and the future looked hopeful rather than bleak.”

Video director Augustus Muller of Boy Harsher elaborates: “This track MOVES. I wanted to design something that could match the energy. On set we kept asking ‘how do we make this faster?'”

Sextile have announced an LA record release show on May 1. They then tour the UK & EU through May & June.
