Brooklyn’s post-punk stalwarts SAVAK share its new single and video for “Two Lamps.” The video for “Two Lamps” was directed by Rob Kassabian. The track is the latest pre-release single to be released from SAVAK’s new album Flavors Of Paradise (Ernest Jenning Recording Co. / Peculiar Works Music) will be released on March 1, 2024 and can be pre-ordered here. On “Two Lamps” the band’s Sohrab Habibion says:
Musically this is as close to Pailhead or Killing Joke as we’ve yet tread and I’m glad to see us dipping our toes there, as those records have been part of my musical DNA since I first heard them in the
late-‘80s.
Lyrically this is more commentary on power, control and perspective two lamps light the room, but depending on where you are standing the view is different. Two camps divide us. Two mouths fight to speak. Two hands strangle us. And we have to ask ourselves, are we just alive or are we actually living?
SAVAK have several U.S. East Coast tour dates later this month and in March, including a record release show on March 7 at Brooklyn’s Union Pool (tickets). The band is also recording a live set for the Evan “Funk” Davies show on WFMU. The show will air on Wednesday, February 21 from 12-3pm. In April, SAVAK will head to France for a two-week tour that will kick off on April 10 in Paris at Mécanique Ondulatoire. All upcoming shows are listed below.
Flavors Of Paradise, was recorded in Chicago at Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio studio without Steve Albini. For a band that has toured Europe five times and never set foot in California, recording 12 songs in 3 days was a breeze across the Danube. The band hunkered down, jammed out ideas in 2 marathon sessions, played a couple of shows to test drive the new material and then got to work with Matthew Barnhart (Superchunk, Bob Mould). No guests, no edits, no country, and definitely no funk—the record is lean, spacious and lively.
