Nashville-based R&B singer-songwriter Ria Barkr has shared her new single “morning would,” available everywhere now, the next offering from her debut EP alpha she, due out in the spring. Over slick, shapeshifting R&B production, Ria shows off her vocal agility and lyrical prowess with clever fast-paced verses before a monster earworm of a chorus. Inspired by keeping the magic alive in her long-term romantic relationship, “morning would” masterfully ebbs and flows as the ultimate bedroom anthem and has arrived with a love-laced music video, directed by Shoot2KillFilms.
“It was so fun co-writing this song with my best friend, CJ-O,” shares Ria, who co-wrote the track with Nashville peer CJ-O and co-produced it with her longtime collaborator Jared Harding of Electric Bear Studios in the U.K. “When I started on the verses I had some trouble finding inspiration so CJ-O said, ‘Try writing the verses with SZA in mind.’ I had never weaved lyrics into such a rhythmic melody before but once I started it just flowed out of me.”
Ria is quickly becoming an R&B act to keep an eye on this year, already amassing an organic loyal following on DSPs. Consistently releasing a string of new singles since March 2022, to date she has garnered over 300,000 streams across all platforms, with only 14% coming from playlist additions. She was recently signed to Grass Fed Music which also represents acts like Sabrina Claudio and Bazzi.
