Mourning [A] BLKstar Shares “Let ‘Em Eat” Feat. Fatboi Sharif

Acclaimed Afrofuturist collective Mourning [A] BLKstar shares new single, “Let ’Em Eat” which features a verse from prolific rapper Fatboi Sharif. The track arrives alongside a music video directed by Singapore-based multimedia artist Humanoire with concepts by Ananda Prioleau, ahead of the group’s eighth album, Flowers of The Living (Don Giovanni), out May 16, 2025. “Let ’Em Eat” exemplifies the Cleveland group’s live-written approach on Flowers, with vocalists LaToya Kent and James Longs layering lyrics over a looped improvisation that served as the songs’ foundation.

While lead single “Stop Lion II” delivered a searing warning over an assured groove, “Let ’Em Eat” contrasts with a buoyant rhythm and hopeful tone. “The song is about perseverance—about acknowledging the journey, the time spent, and not worrying about any outside noise,” reflects co-founder LaToya Kent. Yet, a beat switch upends the track toward the end and ushers in Fatboi Sharif’s imaginative verse—a sharp turn that doubles as a metaphor for defying expectations, something Mourning [A] BLKstar have done for the past decade.

To celebrate their upcoming album and mark their tenth anniversary as a collective, Mourning [A] BLKstar will tour the U.S. and Europe after the album’s release. See the full routing below, with more dates to be announced.
