Early in February, we all witnessed the release of Basilisk (Dischord Records), the second full-length solo release by J. Robbins (Jawbox). One of the record’s many standout tracks is “Last War,” which the band delivers a new video for.

Of the track, Robbins offers, “The song ‘Last War’ came out of my fear for the future in the wake of the January 6 insurrection, and my frustration with the notion that some form of business as usual could somehow bring balance to a country in such deep crisis as if looking the other way would make a problem disappear, or as if you could hope to compromise with someone whose knife is at your throat.

“In making this video, I love how filmmaker and long-time friend Christoph Green, who collaborated with Brendan Canty on the Burn to Shine documentaries, subverted a straight-ahead ‘band in the room’ performance, with multiple takes overlapping like blurring alternate timelines,” he adds.
