Grandbrothers Release Single “Fable”

With “Fable,” Grandbrothers unveil the second single from their upcoming album Elsewhere (out  September 26, 2025 via _and_others, their freshly founded label). The track is a deeply textural piece of electronica – fragile and forceful at once. Anchored by muted, melancholic piano and driven by subtly gritty rhythms, “Fable” lives in a space between contrast and cohesion: tender yet insistent, introspective yet pulsing forward.

Following their recent single “We Collide,” “Fable” continues to reflect a broader shift in the duo’s musical language. For the first time, Grandbrothers open up their sound – previously shaped entirely through a modified grand piano – to drum samples, analog synths and low-end textures. The single arrives alongside an abstract music video directed by Manfred Borsch, a long-time Grandbrothers collaborator. Known for his emotionally charged, visually meticulous work, Borsch creates a dense, associative narrative that mirrors the music’s tension and flow.

“I wanted to create a space without fixed direction,” he explains, “where the intricate layers of sound unravel through imagery, both abstract and rhythmic. A fleeting seven-second focus stretches across the full length of the music, thus forming the foundation for this sense of vulnerability.”

Rather than a performance video, the piece features the two musicians as shadowy figures within a symbolic and highly stylized visual language – rhythmically edited and rich in texture. “There’s something about the density of Manfred’s imagery that feels very close to what we felt when composing the track,” says Lukas Vogel. “It also mirrors the structure and emotional contrasts in the music – how it alternates between moments of tension and release.”

“We’ve rarely appeared in our own music videos – it’s usually something we stay out of,” says Erol Sarp. “But with Manfred and his ideas, it felt right. There’s a deep trust in his vision, and when he suggested we step into the frame this time, it was easy to say yes.”
