Leading up to The Daptone Super Soul Revue Live at the Apollo, a 20th-anniversary of the record label Daptone, the most influential modern-day soul label, treats fans to two live renditions, “ Confess It ” by Saun & Starr, and “ Thank You Lord ” by Naomi Shelton & the Gospel Queens. The live album arrives October 1st and features additional performances by Charles Bradley, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Antibalas, The Budos Band, Menahan Street Band, Sugarman 3, and the Como Mamas at New York’s famed Apollo Theater.
“This theater is about to go to the church” announces Binky Griptite, heralding the start of Naomi Shelton’s rendition of “Thank You Lord.” Her stirring testimony serves as a worthy foil to Saun & Starr’s “Confess It,” emotionally guarded but no less passionate.
Lead singles include ” Introduction by Binky Griptite – The Dap-Kings,” ” Let Love Stand a Chance “ by Charles Bradley, and” Get Up and Get Out ” by Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings. The physical live album includes a 3xLP gatefold with a 48-page booklet featuring both on-stage and backstage photos by Isaac Sterling and Jacob Blickenstaff.
