CrowJane Utilizes A.I. In Gothic New “ASHBURN SIGHT”

“I am the evil leader of this war, set up in a room with all my plans, guns, and old relics. I wanted to display the evil of war and truly develop a character,” says Los Angeles-based experimental post-punk artist CROWJANE (real name: Heather Galipo) about her new music video for track “ASHBURN SIGHT,” out today via Kitten Robot.

With CrowJane embodying a sinister general, “The Director of Photography Kent Holmes created the idea for the video. We had big ideas for an army of soldiers, but since we are on a low budget we decided we can still get our dreams with A.I. The storytelling of war is shown through images of guns, soldiers, explosions, the military attire, etc,” CrowJane continues. “I wrote the lyrics of ‘Ashburn Sight’ about war and the contemplation of what the world would be like without borders. The war in Gaza began and the ongoing war in the Ukraine… I felt deep sadness for what humans will do to one another.”

With daring discord and open, resonant post-punk vocals reminiscent of ’80s and ’90s artistry, the spooky and anthemic track expresses relatable and genuine frustration and despair about the current slate of violence worldwide. With the guitar’s tremolo ringing out behind CrowJane’s voice, she sings, “The ash burned sight / Where can you go / The ash burned sight / Ready to go,” reflecting on the ongoing tragedies.

“We shot the band and Kent’s Studio, dressed them in military attire, put cool lighting on them, and had them perform. Then, Kent came over to my house, decorated the place, and I got to perform for the video in my own living room!” CrowJane exclaims. “Kent works in the art department, so between his skills and my goth home, the set was really cool. He also set up the lighting and shot using an awesome lens that blurs the outer frame. All this mixed with some awesome black and white editing made for a really amazing finished product!”
