On SAY, MammaBear shatters the rigid boundaries of the studio and discovers a sonic immediacy that perfectly suits its unique form of power pop. The classic garage tones and ’60s twang still resonate at the core of the album, but the band isn’t satisfied with regurgitating garage rock tropes. Instead, they find new ways to address age-old topics of love, loss, belonging and spawning an evolution in a genre best described as “fuzz rock.”
Today, Ghettoblaster has the pleasure of premiering the video for MammaBear’s “What Your Body’s For.” This is what singer/songwriter/guitarist Kyle Gordan had to say about it:
“’What Your Body’s For’ was my second opportunity to shoot a music video with George Dunlap. We were lucky enough to shoot using real film on an 8mm camera as we did on our first collaboration for ‘Red’s Dead,’ off MammaBear’s Birds of Paradise album.
“It was a DIY approach and I’m really impressed with the end result. ‘What Your Body’s For’ is a straightforward song about noticing someone and being intrigued by their presence. It’s simplistic and I hope it makes the listener move their body without thinking or hesitation— I think Cassi does a great job embodying that in the video.”
