Before they head out for their national tour, Birmingham-born, Nashville-based soulful indie rock band The Brook & The Bluff shared their new video and single, “Hallways.” The track is on the band’s upcoming debut full-length album First Place, slated for release on October 25.
Lead singer, guitarist, and keyboardist Joseph Settine explains: “‘Hallways’ has a dual meaning within the track. It is a song about longing to be careless around a lot of self-inflicted rigidity. Only wanting to hear one thing from your significant other (or someone close to you) and feeling complete when you do.” First Place comes from summer days growing up in Birmingham, where it was raining in pure sunlight. It centers around an overseas relationship stained by long-distance, reflecting on the heartbreak with sadness disguised by up-tempo, warm chords and vocals. From nostalgia comes hope for the future.
