Baton Rouge, Louisiana’s Spiritiste releases the first single, “Transagion Prayer” from its politically charged debut Excommunication Hymns (Tor Johnson Records), dropping on October 31, 2025. Pre-order it here.
Vocalist Jade says, “This song is special to me as it was created so serendipitously. It’s the only time the music and the lyrics, the first of any of the lyrics to feature more personal and emotional themes, were written separately but fit together so perfectly.”
Gutarist Yann adds, “For me this song has an important place in the development of Spiritiste, since it felt like the first time we all came together to create something special. Billy [the drummer] and I had started the band and had written a bunch of material before we were joined by Dave [bass] and Jade. ‘Transagion Praye’r was a big step in the evolution of our sound and sort of functions like a title track for our album. I get chills everytime I hear Jade scream “My soul sits condemned outside the church I used to attend.” It is by far one of my favorite lines on the LP.”
