After a collaborative performance at Brooklyn’s 37d03d (formerly PEOPLE) Fest this weekend, Sinkane’s new anthemic afro funk track, “Ya Sudan, off the forthcoming album Dépaysé (out May 31st via City Slang) finds band leader Ahmed Gallab — who was born in London to Sudanese parents, raised in Ohio, and now calls NYC home — reflecting on his cultural roots, his family, and what it means to be Sudanese. Stream it privately now via an animated video inspired by vintage Sudanese vinyl artwork and featuring childhood family photos of Ahmed.
“Dépaysé is the story of an immigrant’s journey of self-discovery in the Trump era. The music is loud and raw, and it’s bursting with an energy unlike anything I’ve ever done before,” Gallab said of the new LP.
