After recently premiering the debut single “Head of Stone”, Belgium shoegaze act Newmoon has released a video for the same track from the band’s upcoming LP Space out this fall via Mayfly Records (US) and PIAS Recordings (EU). Belgium shoegaze/dream pop artist Newmoon rose out of the ashes of melodic hardcore act Midnight Souls. Although there are obvious differences in their music, Newmoon uses a well thought out approach to create layers and waves of sound to create a vibe and a feeling very similar to how Midnight Souls had in the past.
Newmoon released a demo EP titled Invitation to Hold in 2014 which caught the ear of Touche Amore vocalist Jeremy Bolm who quickly signed the band and released their EP on his label Secret Voice/Deathwish. The band started touring Europe with some of the biggest names in indie music before stepping back to write their debut LP Space. Space is a perfect blend of fuzz and feedback mixed with pop driven hooks and lush melodies, and is a must listen for fans of artists like Nothing, Jesus and Mary Chain, Catherine wheel, and Joy Division.
The record’s first single “Head of Stone” is as much an ode to the Newmoon’s obvious influences as it is to the feedback drenched riffs of Dinosaur Jr. By not just pulling influence from the the shoegaze/dream pop greats, but also the hardcore and punk acts they shared stages with in Midnight Souls, Newmoon breathes greatly needed life into a shoegaze revival trying to stand on its own merits. The video produced by Derringer Productions is a perfect partner piece with its simplistic beauty.
Space will be released worldwide on vinyl/cassette/digital Oct 14 via Mayfly Records (US) and PIAS Recordings (EU).
