Today Indie punk band Mannequin Pussy share a new video for the song “Cream,” a track off the band’s full-length Patience out June 21 on Epitaph. Marisa Dabice (guitars and vocals) explains, “for the music video we wanted to create a creepy, monochromatic and colorful world. The director, Hanna Hamilton tapped into the lyrics of the song and created a story around them. Being followed by and possessed by an entity that controls the people around it. It feels like a classic 70s horror movie that I wish existed in real life.”
According to director Hanna Hamilton, “‘Cream’ was inspired by the idea of working with Marisa and her sister. I wanted them to play each others’ doppelgänger in traditional horror tropes. This idea guided the design of the sets: 3 movable rooms each made to support a specific practical effect. I love the juxtaposition of horror with bright colors so we wanted the video to have a vibrant 70s look. In addition to the stylized wardrobe and set dressing we also used a vintage Cooke zoom super 16 lens and formatted the video to 4:3 to enhance this feel. Aside from that, the demons pretty much did the rest!”
