Chicago post-hardcore act Droughts came together in 2010 and matured in the Midwest DIY scene. After years of splits, EPs, and touring they released their long awaited full-length LP, Stay Behind, via Skeletal Lightning.
With this record, Droughts hones their simplistic, dense sound into a single piece reminiscent of earlier post-hardcore acts like Shotmaker and Unwound as well as more recent contemporary bands like Touché Amoré and These Arms Are Snakes. Stay Behind’s opening track “Welcome Back” sets the tone lyrically and musically for the album and the band, with a sense of optimism through uncertainty.
Droughts recently released a live session video with Chicago film company Emulsion for “Welcome Back,” which can enjoy below.
