Los Angeles via Provo, Utah art punk band Sego are sharing a new video for their most recent single “Sucker/Saint.” The track is from an as-yet untitled album the group are currently working on, set for a 2018 release.

“Sucker/Saint” is a reference to the dichotomy between songwriter Spencer Petersen’s current life and his upbringing. While he grew up in a religious home in Utah, he currently exists in a very secular world in Los Angeles, giving him an interesting vantage point from which to observe people on both sides. It’s a song about the complexity of modern identity, and how to incorporate your upbringing and past experiences into your daily life when the juxtaposition of the two can feel at odds with each other.
Sego recently wrapped a whirlwind of fall tour dates, including select West Coast headlining dates, a full U.S. run with El Ten Eleven and a brief stint opening for OK GO.
Sego’s Spencer Petersen and Thomas Carroll were both birthed in the burgeoning Provo, Utah music scene. However, finding inspiration in the dissonance that the towering structures and bustling daily life of a city offers over the mountains and relative quiet of Provo, relocated to an old pasta factory in downtown LA. Through various projects together, Sego’s founding members uncovered their distinct sound: lazy, grungy guitars with digital overlays and refreshingly honest lyrics. The band’s music surprises with angular guitars, complex arrangements and musings from an ’80s kid contemplating the void left from the misguided hope of our youth.
