Yasiin Bey Announces New Black Star Album Produced By Madlib

Rumors of retirement are highly exaggerated

At a Madlib DJ set in Denver, Colorado this weekend life seemingly happens the way it should as Madlib lays down tracks as he always does, moving the crowd into a head-nod frenzy, as chill as it can possibly be. Words ring out from the stage, “Yasiin Bey in the building. How many of ya’ll miss Yasiin Bey?  I miss that brother in America…”
Bey, most notably known to fans as Mos Def, performed with the legendary DJ/Producer and as he rocked the crowd he announced a new Black Star album, the collaborative project with emcee Talib Kweli. Fans have always wanted/needed a new album to follow-up the 1998, Mos Def and Talib Kweli are Black Star.
Per Yasiin Bey, the new album will be completely produced by Madlib and it may come as no surprise that the decision to drop new material 20 years after the duo’s last release, which made them one of Hip-Hop’s emcees to define backpack rap.
Apparently, life after retirement comes in the form of going back to what you began with. I’m certain many are grateful.
