Seattle’s Special Explosion are 90s indie rock revivalists of a sort, but still manage to create a sound that is warm and infectious. Stereogum premiered the track “Clotheslined” from their upcoming EP The Art of Mothering (out 2/25/14 via Topshelf Records) recently, saying the track “rides a rock-solid foundation built from booming toms, grooving bass, and (especially) melodic guitar string-bends straight from the heavens.”

Though the band has drawn early comparisons to Death Cab For Cutie, Built To Spill and The Thermals, the gorgeous vocal duets present in their songs show the band avoids the trappings of being pigeonholed as strict revivalists as The Art of Mothering demonstrates the members are excellent songwriters of their own merit.
