Kevin Devine and Petal have just announced their new split, Devinyl Splits No. 9, featuring both artists covering songs from Tom Petty.
Devinyl Splits No. 9, the latest installment in Kevin Devine’s Devinyl Split Series Vol. 2, comes out September 28 via Bad Timing Records. is available for pre-order now via Bad Timing Records. Pre-orders for the split are available now physically and digitally.
On working with Petal, Kevin Devine says, “I love Kiley, and her music; she understands that owning your vulnerability is actually the purest form of strength, and the freedom there is threaded through her songwriting and performance,” says Devine. ‘Her cover exemplifies that awareness—there’s something almost confrontational about the directness with which it’s delivered.”
Kevin Devine is an independent singer/songwriter from Brooklyn, NY. He plays alone, with his Goddamn Band, and as a member of Bad Books. The first run of his Devinyl Splits, released between February 2015 and March 2016, consisted of six split 7” singles, each featuring Devine and a different partner. The series, released by Bad Timing Records and Devinyl Records, returns in 2018 for another run.
For each installment of Devinyl Splits Vol. 1, Devine and his partner chose a theme. No. 1 saw Devine and Nada Surf’s Matthew Caws covering each other’s bands; No. 2 saw Devine and Perfect Pussy’s Meredith Graves releasing new solo songs; No. 3 featured Devine and Tigers Jaw covering The Cure; No. 4 marked the first new full-band song from Kevin Devine & The Goddamn Band in over a year, with Cymbals Eat Guitars revealing a raucous new track of their own; No. 5 consisted of two beautiful acoustic tracks from Devine and Owen; and No. 6 had Devine and Brand New’s Jesse Lacey covering R.E.M.
Devinyl Splits Vol. 2 will be released in the form of six 7” split singles over the course of 2018 and into 2019.
