Indie singer-songwriter Jacob Whitesides released his debut EP A Piece Of Me in February 2015 and has since sold 20,000 EPs without a single dollar spent on marketing (apart from his iPhone bill) and sold out his first European shows in only eight minutes. In addition, A Piece Of Me reached #1 on the iTunes U.S. Singer/Songwriter chart, #3 on the Pop album chart, #5 on the Overall chart and landed at the top of the charts in the UK, Canada, Portugal, Australia, Brazil and France.
As the 17-year-old CEO of his own touring, merchandising and record label Double U Records, Jacob – raised modestly by a single mom in the smoky mountains outside of Knoxville, TN – is breaking virtually every music industry rule in taking a road less traveled. Jacob’s unprecedented independent success has been accomplished with literally no marketing money spent, no radio campaigns to date, and simply relies on his genuine dialogue with his millions of devoted social followers around the globe.
In what some are acknowledging as a blueprint for other music industry contrarians, Jacob maintains full control of his career and is proving how musicians can establish a career for themselves by using the available democratic and free media platforms. Wired Magazine recognizes Jacob as an innovator changing the world and promoting disruptive thinking and radical ideas, and has invited him to speak at their annual flagship event “Wired2015” in London this October. Beginning July 7, Jacob will join R5 for their two-month North American summer Amphitheater tour that will see Jacob play prestigious venues like The Greek Theater in Los Angeles. Tour dates below. Jacob began 2015 by touring with Fifth Harmony and recently finished sold out headline tours of Europe and the U.S.
To help raise awareness for the It Gets Better Project, Jacob launched a limited edition rainbow flag t-shirt and donated half of the net proceeds to Itgetsbetter.org. In addition to any money raised, the charity gets exposure to the millions of “Whitesiders” around the globe. The It Gets Better Project is an Internet-based nonprofit founded to inspire hope for LGBT kids and teens, who often hide their sexuality for fear of bullying.
