Today, Eternal Summers have released a video for “Together or Alone“, the lead single from their new LP Gold and Stone, out June 2 on Kanine Records. Noisey, who premiered the video, is calling the video a “dark middle ground between The Fantastic Mr. Fox and a Tool video.” and the track “an angsty, driving indie punk track punctuated with ethereal female vocals that will make you run directly toward the preorder for the LP.” Gold and Stone is available for pre-order now through Pledge Music.
The video employs director Japhy Riddle‘s signature style, using practical effects and found objects to create a world more like our own than we think. The inventive stop-motion animation takes place on two sets, contrasting the mossy textures of the forest floor with the vast quiet of space. The protagonist (who is made of doll parts and dried flowers) travels from endless night, curling trees, and shimmering gears to a bustling domain where he must assume a disguise to work amongst his peers. The tiny hero’s journey comments on our ritual practice of fitting in, suggesting that when the mask slips, so might our perception-as we find we’re more together than alone.
