As far as DIY-luminaries-turned-pop-daredevils Deerhoof are concerned, even the strange rules of the avant-garde underground need breaking. In 21 years we’ve never see them flinch away from the simple joy of a singalong. One year ago, with the help of the built-in microphone on his computer, drummer Greg Saunier proposed this cover of Janet Jackson’s hit “What Have You Done For Me Lately” to his bandmates. Although the idea was instantly rejected, album single “Paradise Girls” grew out of this rough cut.
