Cursive today announced a number of December U.S. headline shows celebrating 20 years of their third album, Domestica, adding to their already announced year-end itinerary with Thursday and Anthony Green. The band will be performing the seminal album in full each night of both the Thursday dates and the headline tour, which includes a show at Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus on December 18th. The beloved Omaha, NE band recently released a remastered reissue of Domestica on their own 15 Passenger Records—available for purchase in multiple variants here. A pivotal record for the band, it was the first with guitarist/backing vocalist Ted Stevens and first in a now-long line of concept albums. A full itinerary of upcoming live dates is below; tickets are on-sale here.
The Domestica reissue’s unique packaging includes updated, painstakingly rephotographed artwork featuring the same couple, “Sweetie” and “Pretty Baby,” as on the original 2000 art. Again portrayed by Zack Nipper and Jenn Bernard Walker—now with Nipper’s own daughter depicting their child—it picks up the visual representation of the album’s conceptual arc, and imagines what this now-family’s life would look like, 20 years later. The packaging also contains a retrospective essay by Kasher that revisits the time, place, and mindframe of the band around Domestica’s recording in the winter of 1999/2000.
A critical darling and beloved by fans, the success and recognition of Domestica changed the trajectory of Cursive’s career. It was recorded over nine days at Lincoln, NE’s Whoop-Ass studios (the original studio of Mike and AJ Mogis), and the album’s bracing, jagged, cathartic, and visceral songs capture the urgency of the reunited young band—and continue to resonate with fans more than 20 years later.
