Based out of New England, Oberon Rose is a pop/rock band that is built around the songwriting team of Tommy Oberon and Rebecca Rose. In the tradition of Elton John and Bernie Taubin, Tommy writes the music and melodies and Rebecca pens the lyrics.
Oberon Rose has been playing the New England club scene as a trio featuring Mike Keyes on drums, Chris Listorti on bass and keys and Tommy Oberon on guitar and vocals since 2015. Oberon Rose’s sophomore album Tell Me All About It was released on their own imprint ThouART Records on April 6.
Ghettoblaster recently caught up with Oberon to discuss the record. This is what he told us.
When did you first begin writing the material for Tell Me All About It?
The first two songs written for the album were “No Stranger” and “Lonely Ghost.” They were written around the end of 2014. The song “Tell Me All About It” was a song that had been around for a while that we decided to bring into the fold. The album then took a back seat while we put the band together and focused on our live show. We picked the album back up and started writing and recording the rest of the songs around 2016.
Fans of the Bell’s beer?
Would love to try it sometime.
We hear a lot of The Beatles and Big Star in your sound. Were either big influences on you? Any influences we didn’t pick up on?
The Beatles are arguably the most influential band in the history of rock ’n roll, so there is no escaping that. I do like Big Star, but I don’t necessarily consider them an influence. People do compare us to them a lot though. Other influences would include Pink Floyd, David Bowie, T. Rex, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and Peter Green.
Do you have any plans to make any videos for the release?
Our latest video is for the title track “Tell Me All About It.”
What artists are you listening to these days?
Currently listening to some previously unreleased tracks from Prince’s Vault.
Any New England faves we should know about?
We just played in Massachusetts with a band out of Salem called Peterossi. They put on a great show.
What’s next for Oberon Rose? Touring? Perhaps the Midwest?
We hope to be doing some touring soon and would love to hit the Midwest.
