triton., the musical project of Scott Murphy, has shared “orchids” the latest track to be lifted from the artist’s album Sundown in Oaktown out January 27 (pre-order). The song features Tim Payne (Thursday, LS Dunes) and Jarrod Alexander (My Chemical Romance, Alkaline Trio). The track follows the album’s pre-release tracks “_EMBRKDRO_ ” and “bougainvillea,” which are available now on digital streaming services.
“This song started out as a kinda delicate acoustic song with just a little kiss of synth,” says Murphy. “Geoff (Rickly) had suggested making it a high-point of the record, the apex of a build of energy. We talked about making it big, and sounding more blown-out. With that in mind, I sent it off to Tim (Payne)and Jarrod (Alexander) to do their things on it.
“The levels they brought it up, the transformative nature of having people at the top of their craft contribute to the collective sound, is pretty mind-blowing. I love how the invitation of outside perspective can create something so well-rounded and multi-dimensional. Where this song started, to where it finished, the journey of it, was so cool.”
Sundown in Oaktown is an exciting introduction to a raw talent, who makes genre-bending, prismatic music, in service of human connection and the quest for identity. The 12-song album was co-produced by Geoff Rickly from Thursday (No Devotion, United Nations) who also performs on “alcatraz.” The album also features contributions from Aaron Gillespie (Underoath, The Almost), AJ Perdomo (The Dangerous Summer), Tim Payne (Thursday, LS Dunes) played bass on “_EMBRKDRO_,” “orchids,” “alcatraz” and Jarrod Alexander (My Chemical Romance, Alkaline Trio, Death By Stereo, The Suicide File) contributed drums to “_sangre_azul_,” and “orchids.”
