Thao (formerly of Thao & The Get Down Stay Down) has released her single “Ambition” across all DSPs. The single is taken off the 7” Thao released around her 2021 tour. She shares, “‘Ambition’ is the first of a new batch. We play it in the set on tour and I love to see and hear it change a bit each night. I don’t know where it will reside in the future. I am happy for it to be out in the world now, as I aim to be more precious about evolving with songs and less precious about sharing them.”
Thao has been touring North America and the West Coast leg starts April 28 in Vancouver and concludes May 7 in San Francisco. Black Belt Eagle Scout and Quinn Christopherson will be joining her for select dates. The full rundown of tour dates and tickets are available here.
In the Fall of 2021, Thao & The Get Down Stay Down released Temple – Deluxe Edition via Ribbon Music. The LP is a digital deluxe version of her latest album, 2020’s Temple and features acoustic and string arrangement versions of the LP’s “How Could I,” “Marauders,” “Marrow,” and “Temple.” The San Francisco Chronicle said, “the music takes on a symphonic quality with lush classical strings. It’s hard not to place yourself on the streets of Vietnam, where Nguyen’s mother is from, when hearing this operatic soundtrack, which serves to deepen the imagery of her mother’s journey, already present on every moment of the album.” Thao will be taking these songs on the road with her and her band.
