During Gaelic and Medieval times, professional poets and musicians were employed by patrons monarchs and members of high society to tell the stories of their activities and commemorate the patron’s ancestors. The tradition was meant not only to entertain, but to immortalize their influence and traditions.
The new record from Empire! Empire! (I Was a Lonely Estate), the project of Michigan-based husband wife duo Keith and Cathy Latinen, is, perhaps accidentally, a natural extension of this tradition. You Will Eventually Be Forgotten is a collection of carefully crafted, meticulous and moody songs that spotlight a band who have honed their story telling. Every moment is intimate and vivid prose that put the patron listener in the middle of a scene from their lives; a living, breathing movie script that is sometimes harrowing and at other times calming, but always unforgettable.
Sound Check Chat spoke with Keith about the new record, the emo revival, their forthcoming date with Mineral and more. On March 15, 2014, the podcast launched via iTunes and Stitcher, as well as at the Sound Check Chat website (http://www.soundcheckchat.com). Previous podcasts included interviews with Grieves, Buffalo Killers, Circle Takes The Square, The Jazz June, My Goodness, Hawthorne Heights, Beebs and Her Moneymakers and more. In addition to the podcast, Sound Check Chat provides a show notes page providing background behind the podcast and artists covered, as well as links to topics discussed on the show.
Additional details about future podcasts, including those already in progress with Dads, Afghan Whigs, Frameworks and more are forthcoming.
