Song Premiere | Surf The Pines, “Do It All Again”

On Surf The Pines, the new long-player from Seattle-via-Ireland group of the same name, bright, melodic guitar riffs, tight song structures and harmonies, and punchy, clean production come together to offer witty, literate infectious pop-rock confections. A homage to the craft of songwriting, every element – melody, lyric, structure, and instrumentation – serves the goal of being memorable, emotionally resonant, and just downright catchy.

Today, Surf The Pines has released a taste of what to expect on the forthcoming album with the single “Do It All Again.”  With its base firmly in place, “Do It All Again” provides a hefty flow of nostalgia for those who loved listening to bands such as The Lemonheads in the peak of the 90s alt-rock movement.

In regards to the single, singer  “Shane Leinster says, “‘Do It All Again’ is a song I wrote about not having any regrets in life despite doubting myself every step of the way. It touches the surface on issues that hint that what lies beneath requires some serious therapy! The overall point the song wants to state is, would I have lived my life differently? and the answer is no, it’s been a hell of a ride so far (or has it?).”

Written in and around Seattle, the band settled into the historic Bob Lang studio to track the new record. “You cannot help but feel the energy, the aura, the ghosts of so many legends that have recorded there before” says Leinster. Recorded live to quintessential 2″ tape, the record was engineered by Chris Rahm and produced by the legendary Don Gunn (Death Cab for Cutie, Peter Frampton, Soundgarden). In addition to the core quartet, Surf The Pines features guest vocals from Star Anna. “I have been a huge fan of Star’s for the past decade” says Leinster. :I was blown away that she wanted to sing on the record. Her voice is exactly what I envisioned for this song and am so grateful that it was able to happen. I’m honored to have made a new friend.”

Thematically, Surf The Pines eloquently captures the ephemeral, slide-show reality of life as it moves on from the blush of youth. “From holding marriages together to raising kids, we’re all trying to walk the balancing beam of life and to hold it all together – for them and you” tells Leinster. “I hope that people find solace in knowing that they are not the only ones freaked out about your kids these days, that maybe all they need is love and open and honest conversations. And that it’s cool to be getting old and – despite everything – life can still be amazing. That it’s fucking worth it.”

The eponymous LP is slated to be released September 19 of this year.
