Philly’s finest The Roots have given many up and coming artists opportunities on various projects throughout the years. More often than not, these projects often lead towards a beautiful exploration of sound and vision.
Emcee Sugar Tongue Slim and singer/songwriter Khari Mateen May have been going about their musical paths in different directions, but they someone landed together while working with The Roots. A handful of years later, Slim and Mateen are releasing music together.
At the end of July this year, Slim and Mateen dropped a remixed version of Better On A Sunday, this time doing the EP acoustically. Telling their stories of life growing in their hometowns of Philly and Atlanta, the idea of doing an acoustic version came about while Slim and Mateen were on tour. The pair played “Little Bar” and “Fake News (Make Love Great Again)” in their sets, which became the highlight of their shows. Seeing how they enjoyed playing a stripped down style, the musicians went in the studio to cut the new versions of their latest effort.
Today, Ghettoblaster is proud to premiere the single from the acoustic remix of Better On A Sunday, “Waffle House”.
