Song Premiere: Shepherds, "Faith in Soul Pt II"
The band’s new debut LP, Exit Youth (out October 23), is about getting old and realizing your dreams aren’t gonna come true. Written and recorded over a three year period, it chronicles a time in Merenivitch’s life during which he reexamined the decision to devote his life to music. A sprawling journey into shitty day jobs, pure artistic devotion and career suicide, it explores a wide variety of sounds—noise, musique concrete, synth pop, R&B—but is mostly comprised of skeptical, minimalist rock.
Frenetic, anxiety-laden track “Faith in Soul Pt II,” which Ghettoblaster has the pleasure of premiering today, begins as a run-of-the-mill electropop ballad before quickly being enveloped by a squall of unrelenting noise. From there, a hypnotic bassline erupts over a persistent, churning snare beat, coming off like some mindbent freak on a DMT trip ran The Beatles’ “Get Back” through a meat grinder. All the while, singer Merenivitch howls paranoid misanthropic over the top. Enjoy it below:
