Madison, Wisconsin-based grunge-punk band Bashford the kind of act that is loud when it needs to be, quiet when it hurts the most. Likewise, Bashford’s forthcoming effort Wannabe, which sees release via Big Neck Records on November 7, is a record that rides the highs and lows of belief and burnout, stitching heavy riffs and uneasy calm into what it means to want something more. Rooted in Midwest basement shows and wired to distortion pedals, it delivers a sound shaped by tension, release, and the grit of the isthmus they call home.
Today, Ghettoblaster premieres the effort’s title track. Bashford’s Luke Peltonen says, “‘Wannabe’ is about all the times people compare us to other bands or say we sound like somebody else. Instead of running from that, we leaned into it — the chorus is our way of saying yeah, maybe we are wannabes, but we’re gonna play it loud anyway.”
