An unlikely pairing comes in the form American Gentlemen, the duo of Brandon Saller, who cut his musical teeth in the metal band, California’s own Atreyu, and Christopher “C4” Umana, an artist/producer who has worked with Big Sean, Trey Songz, Kelly Rowland just to name a few. The project itself is a beast of a different nature altogether Saller eschews his metalcore background, shifting genres into music that’s much more groove-oriented, meshing his own style with that of C4’s R&B and Hip-Hop Atlanta-based background.
Since meeting back in 2014, the duo has released a couple of EPs, a self-titled release back in 2016 and their Undefeated EP last year. Currently in the studio, American Gentlemen are set on releasing new material this year in the form of its Ghosts EP, and today they premiere the new “The Unknown.” The somber piece is uplifting as it crescendos quickly, sculpting harmonies together with the groove-oriented beats mentioned earlier with C4 handling vocal duties with a presence that’s unequivocally commanding.
“The Unknown” is just a slice of what the American Gentlemen are giving us all this year.
“Unknown” is about that ‘Try Harder’ moment. It’s about the shit that you find inside of you at your lowest. It’s about the power that lies in failure. Some of life’s greatest treasure lie just beyond where you wanted to quit. – Brandon Saller / American Gentlemen
